Magic is now the
NEW BREED RECORD HOLDER, with 54 CC's. She won her 53rd CC under Geoff Luscott at Driffield
Championship show last weekend
and now takes her place
in breed history as the Top winning Boxer of all time.
Les
and Sue Drinkwater live together with their small family
of Boxers in a picturesque
South Northamptonshire village north of Milton Keynes.
Sue first fell in love with the Boxer breed as a teenager,
exercising a brindle dog called "Carlo" who
later was given to her when his owners moved overseas.
Les and Sue were married in 1970 and together they bought "Rocky" a
brindle Boxer male. Rocky was a devoted companion and
guardian to their two daughters Rachel and Lisa when
they came along a few years later.
Sadly Rocky died
prematurely and their search for another Boxer
led them to the Sunhawk kennels owned by Eddie
Banks where they purchased yet another brindle
male called Sunhawk Night Flight who was part of
the family for almost fourteen years. "Max" was
their very first show dog and Lisa’s very
best friend.
Shortly after Max went to live with them, they
bought a bitch from the Steynmere kennel called
Steynmere Militant Miss, a very typey brindle and
white girl with the sweetest of temperaments.
The
first four Champions.
Rachel
and Lisa had great fun with "Missie" in the
Child Handling classes. Missie was mated to Ch. Biloran
Mr Similarity and from this litter, the first to carry
their affix of Sulez, came their first Crufts qualifier,
a red and white bitch called Sulez Dolly Daydream. Missie
was then mated to Ch. Faerdorn Pheasant Plucker in 1984
producing their first Reserve CC winner Sulez Sweet Sensation,
a very smart brindle and white bitch.
Following a series of whelping problems
in subsequent Boxer litters, they decided to buy in a well
bred bitch from good whelping lines to start their breeding
programme afresh. They found her in a daughter of the Top
CC winning red male Ch. Rayfos Cockrobin out of a Ch. Faerdorn
Pheasant Plucker bitch. Her name was Faerdorn
Whatever Next and she was destined to become a star
both in the show ring and the whelping box. "Donna" became
their first Champion in 1989, and is behind most of their
winning dogs today. Read more about Our
History in Boxers.
Whilst Sue is very much the “front
man” for Sulez Boxers, Les is very happy
to stay in the background looking after the dogs
on show days. They can usually all be found stretched
out in front of the TV watching Les’s favourite
football team, Manchester United! In 2003, Sue
was awarded a British Boxer Club “Boscar” for “The
Person or Kennel that provides the most support
to Newcomers”.
Sue & Les Drinkwater
at The Boxer Event 2006. They were presented
with the Top Boxer Award by Ferelith
Somerfield, President of the British
Boxer Club. Sulez Boxers were also
awarded the Top Boxer Award in 2005.
Sue is a Championship Show judge and
first awarded Challenge Certificates at the Cotswold
Boxer Club Championship show in 1997. She judged bitches
at the Midland Boxer Club two day Millennium Show where
each exhibit was given an individually graded written
critique. She has also judged Boxers in Ireland, Sweden,
Australia and New Zealand. Sue is Vice Chairman of the
British Boxer Club and officiates as Show Manager on
their Show days.
